Current News Angela has been commissioned by NHS Sussex Partnership Trust to lead a residency at The Allen Centre in Hove, East Sussex. She is making a cardboard sculpture with service users, using local buildings as inspiration for the shapes of the sculpture. The decoration inside the buildings they are researching will inform how the surface of the shapes will look. The launch of the project will be in April 2009. Angela has also started working with Creative
Partnerships on both their 'Enquiry Schools' and 'Change Schools'
programmes. She is collaborating with Cottesmore St. Mary’s RC Primary
School, Hove to explore how creativity can be used to extend mathematical
enquiry skills in Year 5 and is working with Rye College to discover how
carnival can enhance the curriculum with Year 8.
Angela Carter is an artist and singer based in Brighton, East Sussex. As well as practising and exhibiting her own work, she also runs art workshops with schools, community groups, museums, galleries and others interested in fun learning. After graduating in 2000 with a first-class BA (Hons) in Three-Dimensional Crafts (wood, metal, ceramics, plastics and visual research), she has been involved in numerous art ventures including a residency at the Museum of London. Past projects have explored ideas around the themes of love, people, human interaction and the personal history behind objects. A body of work, which she exhibited in 2004 was based on a collection of love letters found during a house clearance which revealed a 'scandalous' affair. Intrigued by the history of the two lovers, Angela explored their relationship, communicating the passion and language of the couple through a variety of materials including plaster relief and paintings. Exhibiting work around the UK, her practice includes collaborative work and solo and group shows. Angela focuses on making exhibitions, workshops and art in general more accessible, engaging and less intimidating. Her interest is in involving the community through art based sessions, aiming to build confidence enough for the participants to inform and teach others, whilst increasing their own knowledge and understanding. Working regularly with Same Sky Community Arts as a workshop leader, she is skilled in various materials for parades/processions, installations and community projects. To feed her research, Angela regularly visits exhibitions, museums, galleries and sculpture parks and has both written and been featured in numerous articles/reviews including 'Engage Magazine' and 'Artists Newsletter'.
